From the desk of Catherine, South Coast Enviro-Experiences Project Officer

An overcast morning didn’t dampen the mood for enthusiastic volunteers at the City of Albany Planet Ark National Tree Planting Day held recently at Booyiup (Wellington Wetlands) in Albany. A dedicated band of tree planters took the opportunity to engage with the community and help protect the environment for years to come.

The City of Albany team provided a diverse range of tree species and gave advice to the volunteers on how and where to plant the hundreds of melaleucas, banksias and hakeas along the verges of the wetland.  These newly planted native shrubs and trees planted in the wetland basin will enrich the wetlands’ ecosystem and promote biodiversity.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who participated in this amazing conservation effort. It’s heartwarming to see so many people coming together for the sake of our local environment. Let’s keep nurturing these newly planted trees and watch them grow into a thriving habitat for wildlife.
