Project Coordinator - urban possums

Position Overview: South Coast NRM is seeking an enthusiastic Project Coordinator to deliver and lead project activities and outcomes in this Albany-Based role. The successful applicant will provide project management and leadership to South Coast NRM’s Climate-Resilient Conservation of Urban Western Ringtail Possum Populations project and assist in the delivery of the organisation’s priority operational projects.

The Urban Possum Project delivers recovery, monitoring and community engagement activities across urban and peri-urban areas of Albany, helping to support the long-term recovery of the critically endangered western ringtail possum in one of its remaining stronghold regions. The successful applicant will work closely with project partners, community members and landholders to deliver practical conservation actions, including improving habitat connectivity through urban greening, reducing predation by encouraging responsible pet ownership, installing nesting sites and providing supplementary water sources. They will also coordinate and support a citizen science monitoring program for western ringtail possums, while leading community engagement activities that raise awareness of the species and promote wildlife friendly practices across urban and peri-urban areas.

Key responsibilities include:

Project, contract and financial management of assigned projects. Delivery of project activities and outcomes including environmental survey design and implementation, and ecological monitoring and evaluation.
Project reporting in accordance with internal and head contract requirements including status reports on activities, schedule, budget and project acquittals.
Liaise with and coordinate key stakeholders to foster effective communication and collaboration to ensure effective project delivery of field-based activities including events, monitoring and operational outcomes.
Coordinate and manage citizen scientists and private landholders to monitor western ringtail possums and install wildlife friendly structures on private land.
Plan, coordinate and deliver field-based activities including events, ecological monitoring and on-ground recovery actions.
Utilise analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that may arise during project lifecycles and program delivery.

Project coordinator - drought and climate resilience

Position Overview: South Coast NRM is seeking an enthusiastic Project Coordinator to deliver and support project activities and outcomes in this Albany-Based role. The successful applicant will provide project coordination and leadership to South Coast NRM’s Drought and Climate Resilience project and assist in the development and delivery of the organisation’s priority operational projects.

The Drought and Climate Resilience project brings together 11 organisations from across the region to provide a region-wide mechanism for improving drought and climate resilience. The project includes drought planning in the high-rainfall zone, hydrological planning, improved farm water management and monitoring, and on-farm demonstrations focused on soil, crop and pasture resilience.

Key responsibilities include:

Non-Executive Director Opportunity

Position Overview: South Coast NRM is seeking a suitably qualified and values-aligned Non-Executive Director to join its Board and contribute to the strategic leadership, governance and long-term sustainability of the organisation. This is an opportunity to apply your skills, insight and experience to work that supports environmental stewardship, community capacity, cultural awareness and sustainable outcomes across the South Coast region of Western Australia.

Business Development: For more than 30 years, South Coast NRM has been the trusted regional delivery partner across 8.6 million hectares of the South Coast, built on relationships with landholders and communities that cannot be easily replicated. Our Business Development program seeks to evolve how this important work is funded, moving beyond short-term, fragmented grants toward a portfolio that runs from conventional grants and service contracts to blended finance that brings private investment alongside public. We convene roundtables on nature finance, nature-positive tourism, and biodiversity offsets; co-lead the Southern Australia Nature Finance Initiative with partners in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; work with investment partners on a blended-finance vehicle for the region; and build investment-ready landscape projects in the Frankland, Fitz-Stirling, and Esperance regions. We are clear-eyed that this remains a validation period rather than assured delivery, but we are confident in the direction and patient enough to do it properly. We welcome directors with commercial, investment, finance, or government experience who want to help us realise it.

About the Opportunity: As a Non-Executive Director, you will join a Board of experienced leaders with cross-sector expertise and a shared commitment to the future of the South Coast region. You will contribute to strategic discussion, sound governance, informed decision-making and the organisation’s ongoing role as an advocate and leader in independent natural resource management.Board Directors will receive an honorarium payment in recognition of their contribution and responsibilities. Current Board Strengths

Financial and risk management experience.
Experience in natural resource management, conservation science, community engagement or agriculture.
Strategic planning and implementation experience.
Understanding of grant acquisition and external funding pathways.
Understanding of Aboriginal cultural awareness.
Networks across government, non-government and private sectors that can support natural resource management outcomes.
Board governance skills and experience, including Australian Institute of Company Directors training or equivalent.

Additional Skills Welcomed

Accounting and financial expertise.
Business development experience including developing new income streams through blended finance, capital attraction and commercialisation,
Experience in regional economic development and/or primary industries.

As a Board Director, you will contribute by:

Participating in 8–10 combined Board and sub-committee meetings each year, including the Annual General Meeting and other relevant South Coast NRM functions.

Contributing to constructive discussion, informed decision-making and the effective resolution of matters considered by the Board.

This role is central to the smooth operation of our financial systems and supports staff across the organisation. You’ll manage day‑to‑day financial processes, including payroll, ensure accurate record‑keeping, and contribute to monthly and statutory reporting.

If you enjoy working in a collaborative environment, have bookkeeping and payroll experience, and thrive on delivering high‑quality internal service, we’d love to hear from you.

Position Details: The position will be based in: Albany, WA.
Employment Type: Permanent, 0.6 FTE flexibility on school-based hours.
