From the desk of Catherine, Project Officer South Coast Enviro-Experiences.

Beautiful sunny skies welcomed volunteers for the City of Albany Bushcarers Community Busy Bee at Wagon Rock Reserve, supported by the South Coast Enviro-Experiences project.

The focus for this Busy Bee was to search for the roots of a woody climber called Dolichos pea (Dipogon lignosis) and to pull out the weed, away from the other vegetation it twines itself around. It was a great team effort and very satisfying to see how much of this weed they could eradicate. Although it’s quite pretty when it blossoms into a mauve-pink pea flower, this weed, with its dark green leaves arranged in three leaflets, invades bushland and smothers native vegetation.

If you haven’t done so already, take a walk through Wagon Rock Reserve to see how beautiful this piece of environment is. Be sure to walk up to the lookout for amazing views out to the Stirling Range and Porongorups. You’ll see the volunteers’ achievements and how much of this weed has been removed.

You too can join the team and help preserve the many reserves around our town!  For more information on environmental opportunities in Albany, sign up to the South Coast Enviro-Experiences volunteer platform, download the MyImpact App and connect with your community.
