For the first time, #WorldWetlandsDay has been recognised as a United Nations International Day of Importance.
Each year on February 2nd, as we celebrate our unique and ecologically significant wetlands, we are acknowledging the anniversary of signing the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands).
Along the south coast, we have three Ramsar wetland sites – Lake Warden and Lake Gore near Esperance and Lake Muir – due to their high significance as major habitat for migrant and resident water birds.
