South Coast NRM’s “Strong & Proud” youth program recently completed their first semester with a challenging mountain bike ride along the Munda Biddi Trail from Young Siding to the Denmark River. The students were led by members of the Munda Biddi Foundation Mike, Vicki and Dave and were also joined by the Department of Sport & Rec’s Manager Chris Thompson. In the lead up to the challenge, participants were joined by the Albany Mountain Biking Club and the City of Albany’s Travelsmart Officers in a number of smaller rides at Mt Melville and along the Oyster Harbour Fish Traps to prepare them for the event and make sure they understood road rules, cycling etiquette and cycle safety.

During the first semester’s program, participants were involved in other fun outdoor sporting activities including:

· Fishing with the Department of Fisheries.

· Surf awareness with the Albany Surf Life Saving Club.

· Surfing with the Albany Board Riders

· Team Building at the Department of Sport & Rec’s Camp Quarranup.

South Coast NRM would like to thank everyone involved in the program, in particular the Department of Sport & Rec for funding the program, Department of Fisheries, Albany Board Riders, Albany Mountain Biking Club, Albany Surf Life Saving Club, Munda Biddi Foundation, City of Albany and Poornarti Aboriginal Tours.
