South Coast Natural Resource Management is excited to announce that it is running its first Regional Landcare Facilitators’ Community Small Grant Programme for 2017 thanks to funding by the National Landcare Programme.

This programme aims to help community groups get involved in Landcare by providing funds of up to 00 (ex GST) that can go towards the cost of running an event or project that benefits the community and the environment.

‘I’m delighted that South Coast NRM can support our regional groups to run events that will ultimately make a real difference to our environment and build resilience of our communities’ said Mr Justin Bellanger, Chief Executive Officer (acting) at South Coast NRM.

‘As a community-focused not-for-profit organisation, we are always seeking opportunities to help create resilient communities in the South Coast NRM area. The RLF Community Small Grant Programme provides monetary support for on-ground works that the community itself has driven’.

Sally Forbes, Regional Landcare Facilitator for South Coast NRM who is running this round of grants, would like to encourage not-for-profit groups, sports clubs, recreation groups, associations or schools within the South Coast region (Walpole to Esperance) to apply.

‘We would love to see our local communities taking advantage of this opportunity to benefit the environment we all enjoy using’ said Ms Forbes.

‘Projects and events could include a weeding bee at your local reserve, a beach rubbish pickup, tree-planting at your local sports ground, A feral animal control event, or even a fauna or flora survey’ said Ms Forbes.

‘National Volunteers Week is 9-15 May and this would be a great opportunity to organise an event to celebrate volunteers while giving back to the land.’

Application forms are available on the South Coast NRM website. Applications close on Friday 3 March 2017 and projects must be completed by 1 June 2017.

This project is supported by South Coast NRM, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.
