Planting is a wrap at Yakanup

Thanks to all the volunteers who came along to our various planting days at Amity Reach (Yakanup) on Yakamia Creek.

Navigating a mixed bag of winter storms and scorching (by our standards) spring heat, in the end we covered the northern bank with more than 5,000 native seedlings! Thanks also to the Albany weather for finishing the job with a downpour to give the new plants a soak in prep for the summer ahead. 

The staged works program at Yakanuphas involvedbank recontouring, erosion control, weeding, andfinally, revegetation.Once described as a ‘weed infested ditch’, the reach has been transformed into a potential environmental asset that promises to provide habitat, riparian connectivity, and numerous other features that will improve the ecological integrity of the creek.
