THREATENED SPECIES ARTWORK COMPETITION

celebrate our unique threatened species and threatened ecological communities

South Coast NRM invite the South Coast community to enter photographs, original artworks and colouring ins that celebrate our unique threatened species and threatened ecological communities.

For each age bracket in each category, there will be a winner and runner-up awarded, plus a single prize of ‘best entry in show’. Prizes for under 12 years will be to the value of $50 for first prize and $25 for runner up. Prizes for 12-17 years will be to the value of $100 for first prize and $50 for runner up. Prizes for open submissions will be to the value of $150 for first prize and $75 for runner up.

A maximum of three (3) entries across all categories, per person is permitted. Entrants are free to choose which categories they enter.

All entries must be accompanied by an entry form, found here.

INFORMATION AND ENTRY

There are three categories available for entry:

1. Colouring in Competition: colour any of our five colouring sheets (click on the images below to download) and tell us what the threatened species or threatened ecological community means to you, and why you think it is special.
• Age categories for judging: under 6, and 6-12.
• Both sides must be completed to be eligible for a prize (colouring in page and reverse page).

 2. Original Artwork: artwork of any medium that celebrates the threatened species or threatened ecological communities of the South Coast Region.
• Age categories for judging: under 6, 6-12, 13-17 and open.
• Entries for this category must be clearly named and dated.
• Photography entries are excluded from this category.

3. Photography: photography that showcases the threatened species or threatened ecological communities of the South Coast Region.
• Age categories for judging: under 18, and open.
• Entries for this category must be clearly named and dated.

Entries can be submitted: via email to ecologist@southcoastnrm.com.au; posted as a hard copy or on thumb drive to South Coast NRM, 88 Stead Rd, Centennial Park, Albany WA 6330; or dropped off to South Coast NRM’s Albany or Esperance Office or the Albany Public Library.

Entries to be submitted to South Coast NRM by 5pm on Sunday 31st July 2022. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please allow enough time for posted entries to reach South Coast NRM by the Friday 29th of July.

High resolution JPEG images of artwork will be accepted for the original artwork category and colouring in category.

Submitted originals of artworks and colouring in sheets can be collected from the South Coast NRM office after judging has been completed.

Winners will be announced and notified by the 31st August 2022.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. The competition is open to all artists and photographers who reside in the South Coast NRM region (see our map). This includes the shires of Esperance, Ravensthorpe, Jerramungup, Gnowangerup, Broomehill/Tambellup, Cranbrook, Mt Barker, Denmark, Walpole and the City of Albany.

2. The main species (plant or animal) or ecological community depicted in the entry must be listed as Threatened (Conservation Dependent, Vulnerable, Endangered, Critically Endangered, or Extinct) under the EPBC Act. To check whether your chosen species or community is listed as threatened, type it in the search bar on this website: http://www.environment.gov.au/cgi-bin/sprat/public/sprat.pl. Note that if the species you search for does not return a result, then it is not listed as Threatened under the EPBC Act.

3. Entries must showcase a threatened species or threatened ecological community found within the South Coast Region (currently or historically).

4. No more than three (3) entries per person will be accepted. Entrants are free to choose which categories they enter.

5. Entries must have been created or captured within the South Coast NRM region.

6. Entries must be the original works of the entrant.

7. Entries must be no more than four years old.

8. Entries must not have been previously exhibited or have been used for commercial purposes.

9. Emailed entries must be in JPEG format and not exceed 20MB in size.

10. For photography entries, only minor colour correction, cropping and sharpening is acceptable.

11. For photography entries, if the photo contains the image of anyone other than yourself, written permission from that person to use their image must be submitted with the entry. If required, please contact South Coast NRM for a photo release form.

12. The judges will be solely responsible for selecting the winning entries for all awards.

13. The judges may reject any entry that does not comply with the Conditions of Entry.

14. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence in this regard will be entered into.

15. Any cost associated with the submission of their entry is the responsibility of the entrant.

16. The entrant will retain ownership of any artwork of photography submitted. South Coast NRM reserves the right to use or reproduce any submission in future media, advertising, educational materials or displays without any impediment or seeking permission from the entrant. The entrant will be credited for any use of their work.

17. Entry into the competition is free. Parental or guardian permission will be required for entrants under the age of eighteen.

18. All entries must have the entrant’s full name, age, current contact details, date of submission and have been signed by the entrant or guardian.

19. No employee, committee member or board member of South Coast NRM may enter the competition.

20. By signing the entry form and entering the competition, you accept all Conditions of Entry.
