The ‘Capture Nature’ Photography competition is on again! After the highly successful competition in 2015, South Coast Natural Resource Management and the Museum of the Great Southern have come together again to present this competition and exhibition.

The competition is focusing on nature and agriculture offering four broad categories for entries:

Category 1. Natural places and landscapes; this category focuses on the astounding landscapes and coastscapes that are in abundance in the South Coast NRM region
Category 2. Life on the land; this category celebrates agriculture and the people who make their living from the land, in all of the varied industries across the region
Category 3. All creatures great and small; this category appreciates all the creatures that can be found in our landscape, mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, and insects
Category 4. Up close and personal; this section is dedicated to macro photography

Through the medium of photography, South Coast NRM and the Museum of the Great Southern are providing the opportunity for both children and adults to share special moments, landscapes, or animals they have encountered. Justin Bellanger, South Coast NRM CEO said “we have some very special places in our region and sadly, not everyone is able to experience this first hand or knows these places or things exist.” “This is one way to share what our region has to offer.” he said. Mr Bellanger stated that “this is also an opportunity for rural and regional people to showcase the things that are important to them to help to bridge the divide between urban and rural lifestyles and understanding.” “This is yet another way that Regional NRM groups directly support our Landcare network, which we are a proud part of” Mr Bellanger said.

Each category will have a winner and a highly commended, in age brackets of 4-11 year old, 12 to 17 years and 18 + age brackets, plus a single prize of best in show. Winners will be announced at an awards night in Albany in May.

The top 100 entries will be put on exhibition in Albany at the WA Museum’s Museum of the Great Southern and in Esperance at the Cannery Arts Centre.

The competition is now open for entries. The closing date is Friday 21 April 2017.  Download an entry form below.
