Our Corporate Plan

Our vision

To be the most innovative, efficient and effective regional natural resource management organisation in Australia.

Our mission

Through leadership, we acquire and use resources to enable the whole community to improve the unique environment of our region, as embodied in Southern Prospects 2011-2016.

Our guiding principles

We’re dedicated to doing everything we can to help our organisation successfully achieve its mission. We do this in a socially and environmentally responsible and ethical manner. We respect the law, protect the environment and provide optimum benefits for the communities where we work.We strive for high proficiency by developing competence in all aspects of our work through personal and professional training.We’re dedicated to delivering ethical leadership. Therefore we will:

  • Act with integrity and be open, transparent and consistent in our decision-making processes.
  • Maximise the effectiveness of our resources, both human and capital.

Our goals and strategies

Goal A - An improved environment

Working with our community to achieve observable, real and lasting environmental improvements as embodied in Southern Prospects 2011-2016.

Strategies to achieve goal A

A1: Develop and implement a diverse and innovative communication plan to increase awareness and support of organisational activities and understanding of the environment by the public and funding bodies. Note: strategy also applies to goals B & F.
A2: Define a study to determine the economic value of environmental assets for use in promotional material to increase community and industry support.
A3: Create a database of key positions and skills (internal and external) required to successfully deliver Southern Prospects 2011 -2016.
A4: Develop and implement a monitoring and reporting plan to accurately record the outcomes of Southern Prospects 2011 – 2016.
A5: Determine key drivers and limitations to stakeholder (land managers, farmers, non-government organisations) involvement in NRM implementation.

Goal B - An engaged community

Increase our community’s knowledge, understanding and engagement to improve the environment.

Strategies to achieve goal B

B1: Develop and implement a diverse and innovative communication plan to increase public awareness and support of organisational activities and understanding of the environment. Note: strategy also applies to goals A & F.
B2: Develop and implement a community engagement plan (that includes events management) to increase community involvement in environmental projects.
B3: Develop and implement an events management program to provide opportunities for quality community engagement with educational outcomes.
B4: Increase the use of the NRM Learning Centre resource to improve community understanding and knowledge of the environment and provide guidance on future projects.
B5: Develop and implement a corporate engagement strategy to increase corporate support and funding.

Goal C - An effective team

Create a positive culture that promotes and fosters teamwork, innovation and professionalism.

Strategies to achieve goal C

C1: Develop, implement and resource an organisational training plan to increase skills level of staff.
C2: Develop and implement a strategy to embed the organisation’s Guiding Principles.
C3: Hold bi-annual staff team building events to engender understanding and develop strong relationships.
C4: Redesign our performance management and feedback process to ensure it is effective, relevant and measureable and provides clear individual and organisational outcomes.
C5: Develop and implement an annual staff satisfaction survey.

Goal D – Ample resources

Grow and diversify our income for investment into the region.

Strategies to achieve goal D

D1: Conduct a skills and resources audit and implement a strategy to ensure the organisation has the ability to respond rapidly to opportunities without compromising people or due diligence.
D2: Develop and implement a business investment strategy (including a list of potential public and private funding opportunities) to identify, guide, and manage risk and organisational capacity to deliver future business development opportunities.
D3: Create a relationship building plan to ensure key staff engages with funding body representatives on a regular basis.
D4: Develop the South Coast NRM brand.
D5: Develop a marketing plan which identifies market sectors, target markets, market methodologies and strategies.
D6: Develop a business system to effectively identify, understand, scope and deliver viably external services, including providing appropriate staff training

Goal E – Refined processes

The continual improvement of business systems which are responsive, flexible, clear and concise.

Strategies to achieve goal E

E1: Implement regular recording of error rates and turnaround times to measure and identify inefficiencies in the project document process.
E2: Develop and implement an information systems improvement strategy and system to increase operational efficiencies.
E3: Continually improve the organisation’s business processes.
E4: Develop and implement a competency-based training plan to increase understanding and efficient use of business systems.
E5: Develop and implement a process communication strategy to increase internal and external understanding of the processes required for successful project management.

Goal F - Effective projects

All projects, irrespective of size, are critical to meeting the mission of the organisation.    

Strategies to achieve goal F

F1: Develop and implement the use of project management templates and processes for use by staff to ensure effective and consistent project management and recording.
F2: Coordinate a regional project officer training program to upskill internal and external staff.
F3: Create a preferred supplier policy to identify and reward effective project management organisations.
F4: Develop and implement a diverse and innovative communication plan to increase public awareness and support of organisational activities and understanding of the environment.   Note: strategy also applies to goals A & B.
